In one of those “anyone could see this coming” trades, FC Dallas has traded Carlos Ruiz to the LA Galaxy in exchange for a 2nd round pick in 2009 and allocation money. The Galaxy now have three designated players on their roster, though Ruiz and Donovan are grandfathered in for now.

Joe Cannon, acquired last year by the LA Galaxy, has been traded to San Jose, and will be the starting keeper for the expansion side. LA Galaxy will receive allocation money to help pay for their over budget payroll.

LA Galaxy, in another cost cutting move, have shipped Santino Quaranta to NYRB for a fourth round MLS Superdraft pick. I Hope he plays defense. How does a guy go from National Team member to has been in less than 2 years? He’s only 23 after all.

RSL has traded Chris Klein to LA for Nathan Sturgis and Robbie Findlay. Looks like RSL is on track to be competitive in 2009.

Toronto FC has traded Edson Buddle to the Galaxy in return for Tyrone Marshall. Look for Buddle to get the start in LA while Donovan is gone, and Marshall should step right in and secure the back for TFC.
