MLS Predictions

6/23/07 – CNNSI – Ryan Hunt

This week, Ryan is justified putting RSL at the bottom of the Power Rankings. Good thing for RSL a new expansion team hasn’t been announced, or RSL would be in 14th.

Kansas City 3, Columbus 1 — Columbus is trying to snap a seven-game winless skid
Chivas USA 1, Houston 0 — Goats’ defense gets it done in key Western clash
Toronto FC 2, New England 1 — Dichio (says he’ll play), Cunningham clicked quickly
FC Dallas 1, Colorado 1 — You can bet Rapids fans will be ready for Dario Sala, Hoops
D.C. United 3, Real Salt Lake 1 — Adu misses his first shot vs. former team
Los Angeles 2, Columbus 2 — More goals from Buddle, Jaqua too much to ask?
Houston 2, Kansas City 1 — Houston gets some of its Gold Cup group back

MLS Week 11 Roundup

I have been dreading doing the weekly update, as I know I did horribly last week. I have a feeling I may have gone from first to worst in one week. Oh well, still plenty of time to make up any difference. Let’s see how we did:

Ives Glarcap: 2 – 3 – 0
Ryan Hunt: 4 – 3 – 1
MLSP: 3 – 4 – 0

As I had noted, Ives did not make predictions for the two Sunday matches, I will update his total if I can track down those predictions.

Ives: 27 – 41 – 6
Ryan: 28 – 42 – 5
MLSP: 29 – 41 – 6
Guests: 2 – 12 – 0

Whew! One more week in first place, though I have a feeling I may not see first the rest of the season.

6/16/07 – MLS Predictions Predictions

FC Dallas at Real Salt Lake – RSL is a much better team the last few weeks, with ties on the road against good teams. RSL should have beaten FCD the first week or the season, but tied on a last minute goal by Ruiz. FCD is without Ruiz and Cooper this week. Their speed should cause RSL problems, but RSL shouldn’t have any problem winning, if they can get their shots on goal. FC Dallas 1, RSL 3

Columbus Crew at NE Revolution – Columbus has not been playing well at all, going 0-4-2 the last 6 matches. NE was playing well prior to the loss of their Gold Cup players, but playing at home against a Columbus side looking for a tie, they should roll pretty easily. Columbus 0, NE Revolution 2

Chicago at DC United – With the win at home last week against NYRB, DC appears to be back. Well, back enough to be considered in the top half of the league. They aren’t the dominant team of the first of last year, but are playing better than earlier this year. Chicago has been ok, but not great. Playing on the road, they have been horrible, losing their last three. In theory, DC shouldn’t have a problem, but this is one of those matches where anything could happen. Chicago should play counter attacks, and could easily score a 1 – 0 win. I am going with DCU, but don’t be surprised if Chicago pulls it out in the last 10 minutes. Chicago 0, DC United 1

KC Wizards at NY Red Bull – Well, the leagues best team (KCW) without their best player, playing on the road at NYRB, should be the best match of the week. KC beat NYRB two weeks ago at home with EJ in tow, but this could be different. NY is still beat up, but Angel has been playing like crazy, and should do well again this week. Look for NYRB to eek out a win at home in a defensive match. KC Wizards 1, NYRB 2

Colorado Rapids at Chivas USA – Chivas pulls off a big win on the road in Chicago last week, while Colorado lost on the road in Houston. Chivas plays well at home, while Colorado has lost their road touch of late. Chivas shouldn’t have a problem with the Rapids at home, and should be able to score at will. Colorado 0, Chivas 3

FC Dallas at Toronto FC – Two games on the road for Dallas in 4 days, and Toronto still is a tough place to play. Toronto will be without newly acquired Tyrone Marshall due to red card suspension. All things are pointing to a Dallas loss in this one, but I think, coming off the loss to RSL, they will be looking for at least a point. FC Dallas 2, Toronto FC 2

Real Salt Lake at LA Galaxy – This is RSL’s chance to get back into the playoff race. The Galaxy are easily the league’s worst team right now, and they just traded away their best remaining player in Marshall. Until they get Donovan back, and get Xavier and Beckham in the line up, they may never win again. RSL 2, LA Galaxy 0

6/16/07 – CNNSI – Ryan Hunt

While I am still disappointed that RSL is still at the bottom of Ryan’s power rankings, here are his picks anyways.

FC Dallas 1, Real Salt Lake 0 (ESPN2) — FCD barely escaped with draw last trip to RSL
New England 1, Columbus 0 (FSC) — Like Houston, Revs find way to win minus big guns
D.C. United 2, Chicago 0 (HDNet) — Depleted Fire struggling to find an attacking presence
New York 2, Kansas City 1 — EJ won’t be around to burn the Red Bulls’ defense this time
Chivas USA 3, Colorado 1 — Rapids will be without Brown, Mastroeni and Beckerham
Toronto FC 2, FC Dallas 1 (TeleFutura) — Another brutal Thurs.-Sun. travel week for FCD
Real Salt Lake 1, Los Angeles 0 — The winless streak has to end some time … doesn’t it?

FC Dallas at Real Salt Lake

That zero in the Real Salt Lake win column is starting to weigh heavily on a franchise that was looking for a spark when it hired Jason Kreis as head coach. Yes, RSL has tied four of six matches under Kreis, but that just won’t cut it, and we are still waiting to see what reinforcements the team will add. FC Dallas escaped Salt Lake City with a gift of a tie in the season opener but will come away with a victory at Rice-Eccles Stadium this time around: FC Dallas, 1, Real Salt Lake 0.

Columbus Crew at New England Revolution- Revs roll, even though the Crew does give them fits everytime they play. Rookie Adam Cristman has his coming out party. Revoluton 2, Crew 0.

Kansas Ciy Wizards at RBNY- The Red Bulls are healthier than they have been in weeks and they’re at home, where they’ve surrendered just one goal. The Wizards are without Eddie Johnson and haven’t won at Giants Stadium in years. This is an easy one. Red Bulls. 3, Wizards 1.

Chicago Fire at DC United- DC is rolling and the Fire is stumbling. Christian Gomez and Luciano Emilio should have a field day against a shaky Chicago defense. DC United 2, Fire 1.

Colorado Rapids at Chivas USA- The Goats are playing better but the Rapids are due for another good road performance. These teams should play an entertaining game, but there won’t be a winner. Chivas USA 2, Rapids 2

I had to pull many of these off of Ives Blog, Soccer by Ives, and he did not do any predictions for Sunday’s match ups. I will add them later if I can find them.
