6/02/07 – MLS Predictions Predictions
Hey, at least I got something done this week prior to the matches starting. Yes, it is well after midnight on Friday, but there is more than 12 hours before the first match. I need to get better about writing earlier in the week.
Colorado Rapids at Toronto FC – Cunningham had four or five break aways last week in his first match for Toronto FC, and didn’t come close to scoring once. I don’t see Colorado letting him have that many one on one chances this week, they will keep an eye on him. Colorado plays well on the road, Toronto plays well at home. Colorado Rapids 2, Toronto FC 2
Real Salt Lake at New England Revolution – RSL has been playing much better since the coaching change, but it hasn’t been good enough to pick up a win. They have been close, but luck has not been on their side. RSL dominated NE last year with a 3 – 1 win, and I am hoping for another breakout. NE could be a bit overconfident, only time will tell. RSL 3, New England 1
New York Red Bull at Kansas City Wizards – This is a tough one, probably the best match up of the week. NY has been playing well, as has Kansas City. EJ has been a terror on teams, he is back to his form of 2 years ago. Look for NY to bunker back and play for a tie, with the hope of counter attacking and scoring off of set pieces. I just am not sure the back line can control EJ, especially at home. NYRB 1, Kansas City 2
DC United at Los Angeles Galaxy – The last game with Donovan for a while could be their last shot at a point for a while. DC has been playing well the last few weeks after a horrible start, while I still believe the Galaxy are the worst team in MLS. Even without Carroll, DC should be able to control this match, as the Galaxy will be missing 8 players. DC United 3, Galaxy 1
FC Dallas at Houston Dynamo – Well, Dallas should roll, they play well on the road, and Houston has been down right poor for a defending champion. But, one thing I have figured out about this league is that when you think you have things figured out, things change quickly, and everything is flipped on it’s head. FC Dallas 1, Houston Dynamo 1
Columbus Crew at Chicago Fire – Chicago is in a huge slump, four losses followed by a tie against RSL at home. Dave S is on the hot seat, and he gets lucky with Columbus at home. If Chicago loses, look for a coaching change sometime this week. I just don’t see them losing though, Columbus can’t play on the road, they seem to hope for a tie, and it never works out. Dave gets a few more weeks on the job, with five of their next 7 at home. Columbus Crew 0, Chicago Fire 2
