Another busy week, with 6 games on tap. DC United plays twice, hoping to pick up some points for the first time this year, while Toronto and the Galaxy get the week off.

New England Revolution at DC United – DC has to be the hardest team to figure out right now. They are basically the same team as last year, but they just can’t win, or even tie for that matter. They looked ok in their loss to Colorado on the road, but have looked horrible the last two weeks. Their last match at home was a 4 – 2 drubbing by KC, and NE brings the same type of team this week. Double T is ripping up the league so far, four goals in four matches. He should have a pretty easy time against the battered back three of DC. This should be a fantastic match, heated rivals, one team desperate for points, at least the weather will be nice. Look for TT with the brace. Revolution 2, DC United 1

Columbus Crew at KC Wizards – Columbus has yet to lose this year, but only has 6 points from 4 matches. They play a defensive style, and will be content with a 0-0 draw on the road. KC is playing well, and will be tough to be at home. EJ looks like he did 2 years ago, very dangerous. Once Sealy is back from his foot injury, they are the most dangerous forwards in the league. Look for Columbus to sit back and counter when they can, but KC should be able to get a goal in early, forcing Columbus to push players forward, opening up more changes for KC. KC Wizards 2, Columbus 0

New York Red Bull at Real Salt Lake – Had I written this yesterday, I would have predicted a 2 – 0 win for NYRB. RSL has shown me the can’t compete with teams who play solid defense. With the coaching change today, my prediction has changed. RSL will not play the horrible 4-5-1 they have been playing, which plays right into the hands of a team like NYRB. Look for them to come out in the standard 4-4-2, giving them more options to score. Look for Kreis to also bring some passion to the team, something they have not had in years. RSL should fare well this weekend, but it will be very interesting to see how RSL does beyond the first week. I think Kreis has an excellent chance of being a fantastic coach, he has everything needed. (Please note, last week I predicted Ellinger would be fire if RSL lost to Colorado, which they did in spectacular fashion. I really should get an extra bonus point for that!) NYRB 1, RSL 1

Houston Dynamo at Colorado Rapids – If Houston could score, they could be a good team. With Ching hurt, no one else is stepping up their play, and the team is suffering greatly. Colorado has played well, especially at home. Look for that trend to continue, especially since the weather in Denver should be in the 40’s and raining at game time. Colorado is stong defensively and in the midfield, and their forwards are gnats, they just drive defenders crazy. Rapids 2, Houston 0

Chivas USA at DC United – Chivas looked horrible last week at “home” against the Galaxy, they were never in the game at all. With wins over Toronto and RSL at home, I am just not sure how good Chivas is. They will be without Kljestan again this week, I think that really hurts them. They were just killed in the midfield last week, and that should continue on the road against DC United. As I am prediction DC United to lose on Thursday, this will be there best shot at getting points. DC United 3, Chivas 1

Chicago Fire at NE Revolution – Chicago has shown me they are the class of the East right now, a great defensive team, good enough on offense to pick up the win. With NE playing a tough road game on Thursday, and then a home game three days later. Chicago should be well rested, and look for NE to put everything on the line to beat their rival DC. I think Chicago picks up three more points here. Chicago Fire 1, NE Revolution 0

In what could have been the worse move in the history of MLS, Chivas traded for Amando Guevara last off-season, giving up their designated player position. The thing is, while Guevara had been a MVP in the league, he was horrific last year, both on and off the pitch. I am sure Bruce was giddy when Chivas took the deal. Well, Guevara has been invisible on the field, and picking up red card off the field. Catastrophe! Look for Guevara to be traded to Toronto FC (they deserve each other) for Nagamura and a draft pick. While I am not really going out on a limb here, look for Guevara to be out of the league by the end of the year.

  1. You support RSL, right? I think I remember you saying you were at the Colorado match … Anyway, what’s your take on the PK? HDNet never really had a conclusive angle on it, so it was tough for me to tell … Let me know your perspective. … Shoot me an e-mail

  2. Yes, RSL season ticket holder. We sit front row right between the two benches, and first, I just want to say what a nice guy Bruce Arena is. The first MLS coach to yell at the ref for a call made FOR his team. Both he and Harkes were completely cordial during the entire match, were willing to talk to us and sign autographs. Class act.

On it’s own, the PK was probably a poor call, however, I thought there were two missed fouls in the box in the minutes prior to the call. Cunningham was basically tackled twice, neither was called, I think it was a make up personally.

  3. Great site “admin”. I’ll probably be your “guest blogger” in a couple of weeks.

Our podcast has three picking matches: One who coaches, one who was a player and myself the converted american football turned soccer fanatic. Of course I know the least so I’m doing the best (call that the wife winning the NCAA tournament bracket every year syndrome).

9-15-2 is where I stand now. Yeah, we pretty much suck at picking games.
